Not every patient needs the same depth of sedation. After a short consultation with Dr. Huynh, we match you with the gentlest option that works for your procedure, your medical history, and your comfort level.
Nitrous oxide — takes the edge off.
Often called "laughing gas," nitrous is inhaled through a small nose mask. You feel relaxed and slightly floaty but stay awake, aware, and able to respond. Effects wear off within minutes of removing the mask — you can drive yourself home, back to work, or school.
Best for: routine cleanings, simple fillings, mild dental anxiety, and pediatric patients who need a little help sitting still.
IV sedation dentistry — the deepest option.
Administered through a small IV in your arm, this is the closest thing to "sleeping through it" without general anesthesia. You breathe on your own the entire time; we monitor oxygen, pulse, and blood pressure continuously. Most patients remember almost nothing of the procedure itself.
Best for: extensive surgical work, multiple extractions in a single visit, severe phobia, or anyone who simply wants the appointment to be a blank spot in memory. Requires a driver and a full rest day.
Is sedation safe?
Yes — when it's done right. Dr. Thanh Huynh administers IV sedation under a Texas (TSBDE) Level 3 moderate sedation permit, with the trained team monitoring oxygen, blood pressure, and pulse continuously. We screen every patient for medication interactions, heart/lung conditions, and sleep apnea before prescribing. If an option isn't safe for you, we'll say so plainly and suggest alternatives.

Many insurance plans partially reimburse medical sedation when it is paired with surgical dental work like extractions or dental implants; we file the claim for you and can split larger treatment plans across two years. This is a starting estimate; your exact cost depends on your specific case, and we review a written estimate with you before treatment. We offer an in-house membership plan and CareCredit financing.

Can I drive myself home after sedation dentistry?
After nitrous, yes — effects wear off within minutes. After IV sedation, no. You'll need someone to drive you home and ideally stay with you for a few hours. We won't release you without a confirmed driver.
How do I know which sedation option is right for me?
