Gum Disease Therapy or Periodontal Treatment
Many people classify gum therapy or periodontal treatment as “deep cleaning.” To us, that is a big misconception because the consequences of not doing the treatment is severe. Periodontitis is an infection underneath the gum leading to bone loss and tooth if left untreated. To treat this disease, we anesthetize the infected area because the ultrasonic cleaner and hand scalers will reach down near the bone level to clean out the buildup of tartar, plaque, and calculus—the main causes of the infection. Periodontitis is a serious disease correlated with an increased risk of heart attacks, diabetes, and other health problems. According to the CDC, close to 50% of Americans have some form of periodontal/gum disease. Many patients do not know they have a gum disease because it progresses slowly and silently. Please let us know if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Swollen or puffy gums
- Bleeding while brushing or flossing
- Halitosis or consistently bad breath
- Loose teeth
- Pus from gums
Gum therapy together with laser treatment can produce great results and help to fix a problem that would only get worse. Please check out our Dental Savings Plan concerning the cost of this treatment if you do not have insurance.
